Who Caught the Fish
(sing to Who Stole the Cookie)

Who caught the fish in the deep blue sea?
(child's name) caught the fish in the deep blue sea.
(child says) Who me?
(group says) Yes you!
(child says) Couldn't be.
(group says) Then who?
(child picks next person)

Pass a fish around the group as you sing. This is a great transition song as the children are moving from group to a different activity like outdoor play or centers.

Five Little Fish Went Swimming one Day
(sing to Five Little Ducks)

Five little fish went swimming one day
Over the sea and far away
Mommy fish called "Come back, come back"
Only four little fish came swimming back

Four little fish went swimming...
Three little fish...
Two little fish...
One little fish...
No little fish...
Then a big whale came swimming past And five little fish swam back so fast!

Sing the song each day, choosing a different sea animal to sing about each day.

Fish Alive

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 I caught a fish alive
6, 7, 8, 9, 10, I threw him back again
Why did you let him go? Because he bit my finger so!
Which finger did he bite? The little one on the right!

Sing this song each day, changing the animal that you catch each day. Try to get the kids to think about animals that are dangerous to catch like shark, whale, crab, lobster, jellyfish. You may need to change the word about what the animal does (like the jellyfish doesn't bite, it stings)

Five Little Fishes

Five little fishes swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark "you can't catch me"
Along came Mr. Shark as quiet as can be...

Four little fishes swimming in the sea...
Three little fishes ...
Two little fishes...
One little fish...

You could hang 5 fish on the wall and sing five little fish the first day and take one away that the shark eats. Each subsequent day you can sing about the fish that are left, four little fish on Tuesday, three little fish on Wednesday, etc.

Or you could sing about 5 fish on the first day and then sing about a different animal that is teasing the shark the next day and so on, singing the entire song down to no fish.

Five Little Fish

Five little fish swimming by the shore.
One swam away and then there were four.
Four little fish swimming in the sea.
One swam away and then there were three.
Three little fish swimming in the blue.
One swam away and then there were two.
Two little fish swimming in the sun.
One swam away and then there was one.
One little fish swimming all alone.
He swam away and then there were none.

Sing this song every day, changing the animal you sing about each day. Sing about five little sharks, five little seahorses, etc. You could let the children decide each day which animal to sing about or change it according to the small group you will do that day.
